I can still remember the bad smell. If there is one odor that sticks in the nostrils like no other, it's that of a cat peeing on the bed. It's a sort of pungent, acrid stink that lingers long after the cat has left his mark.
It took several quilts and even a mattress before I figured out a two-step process to convincing my cat to go back to his litterbox.

The first thing you need to do to stop cat peeing on the bed is to get rid of the bad smell.
Do not use a normal house cleaning solution. This will only make matters worse. Cat urine is pretty potent stuff and needs an equally potent cleaner to eradicate the bad smell completely. Remember, even if you can't smell it, your cat might still be able to.
Go out and buy a bottle of Nature's Miracle. This stuff is worth its weight in gold. You need to soak the area with this stuff (don't worry it comes in big bottles) and let it dry.
The tricky part is keeping the cat off the bed while the solution works it's magic.
The second step is to get out some aluminum foil.
Your cat won't want to step on the foil so will stay away from the bed. Make sure you punch lots of holes in it so that Nature's Miracle can dry. Don't worry that it bad smells even worse after first applying as it's just the enzymes breaking down the compounds responsible for the smell.
Cats are very clean animals and they are very picky about their environments. It doesn't take much to make them decide to forgo the litter box and pick somewhere like your bed to urinate. By adding more litter boxes, you are giving them more alternatives.

If you want your cat to stop peeing on the bed once and for all, you should follow this approach first. It's worth mentioning, however, that there can be other causes that are making your cat leave his litterbox in the first place.
